Go Farther

Wayne Dyer Walks the Extra Mile (The Secondhand Inspiration Project)
The Secondhand Inspiration Project begins with a motivational quote and goes wherever the creative path meanders.
”It’s never crowded along the extra mile.” — Wayne Dyer
It seems more like snarky paternal advice than a motivational mantra. A wry remark a dad might use to dupe their kid into working harder. Though it may seem clichéd, this quote is valid. You’ll rarely need to slug through a herd of people who are all eager to go above the minimum of what’s required.
For those pursuing success and personal improvement, the road may be lengthy, but it won’t be congested. Along the way, you’ll confront the silence of being alone on an extensive journey. That silence is deafening — so obnoxious and omnipresent that you’ll begin questioning whether the route you’re taking is the correct one.
But don’t succumb to skepticism. Sure, double-check your roadmap or GPS to confirm you’re headed in the proper direction. But don’t hoodwink yourself into believing that traveling an unfamiliar path by yourself is wrong. Become a trailblazer, finding new routes that others will follow in the future.
Also, realize you’re not completely alone. There are others going the extra mile. You just don’t always notice them because they’re navigating it in a different field, career path, genre, or sport. Yes, there aren’t a plethora of extra milers, but they do exist — trudging through challenges, sprinting towards goals, fighting the good fight.
I’m traversing that extra mile on several fronts — creative writing, consulting career, personal fitness, hobbies, and side hustles. I’ll discover a lot about myself, both positive and negative. I’ll make improvements and adjustments. I’m not completely sure how it will shake out, but I’m willing to cast aside doubt to try. If you’re still reading this rant, then perhaps you’re contemplating doing the same. Go for it. Don’t procrastinate. Walk the extra mile.
