Alva Myrdal was a diplomat, sociologist, and politician, known for her contributions to international affairs and social issues. As the head of the Swedish delegation to the United Nations, she played an integral role in the nuclear disarmament movement, which sought to convince the United States and the Soviet Union to reduce and abandon their nuclear weapons during the Cold War.

Myrdal, with her husband Gunnar Myrdal, shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982 for their advocacy of disarmament and social justice. A trailblazer in gender equality, she also helped to shape Sweden’s welfare policies.

Alva Myrdal’s legacy extends as a champion of peace, social reform, and women’s rights. Her quote -

“It is not worthy of a human being to give up.”
